That area is so pretty and it's wonderful that they've preserved the mound so people can enjoy it. We have the Fort Walton Beach Indian Temple Mound nearby and love to wander around on it. Something special about being in a place so old I guess.Sandcastle Mommahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11909850898687059507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7099962441495472453.post-51025792731713627472008-07-17T18:42:00.000-04:002008-07-17T18:42:00.000-04:00Thanks Laura, we'll have to go exploring this week...Thanks Laura, we'll have to go exploring this weekend and check it all out. There's a big indian mound just east of the hospital, across the inlet, at a behind the Old Dogwater Cafe restaurant. (make sense? LOL).

Here's a good site with more info:
I met the author a long time ago and he gave us a tour of his house and of the other one I mentioned on Park Street. I'll bet anything he'd do it again if contacted. He's a real likeable guy!

Check out his site if you're interested.
http://www.sacredlands.info/mp_indian_mounds.aspxAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7099962441495472453.post-8884891899287412722008-07-17T07:56:00.000-04:002008-07-17T07:56:00.000-04:00Hi Laura, I was reading a book about the Tocobaga ...Hi Laura, I was reading a book about the Tocobaga and it was talking about all their mounds around Baypines. Makes me wonder when they cleared the site across from the hospital, if they found any pottery or tools. That would be so cool!Danihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04038703319667640641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7099962441495472453.post-44429322698798750182008-07-16T15:37:00.000-04:002008-07-16T15:37:00.000-04:00I've never been out there, I'll check it out the n...I've never been out there, I'll check it out the next time we head over the bridge.
There's another Indian mound off Park Street in Jungle Prada, on the other side of Saffron's restaurant. Most of it is private residence, unfortunately. It's a beautiful site and I wish they'd offer tours!VitaminSeahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03576399504681573320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7099962441495472453.post-33171490509355372002008-07-15T20:07:00.000-04:002008-07-15T20:07:00.000-04:00Hi Cathy, those mosquitoes were quite evil!! I live on TCI and you probably past my house on your way to the mound. Glad you enjoyed it. Didn't our giant sized mosquitoes cart you away though?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
