Apple Tree

Our Apple Tree is blooming right now. This variety Anna, along with Dorsett for cross-pollination, is a good choice for us living in Florida. They need about 300-400 hours of chill time to produce fruit and the only drawback we've had so far, is that they're very susceptible to scale.

  1. This is great info, would love to have a couple of our own apple trees. Do you have planting suggestions as in their requirements of amounts of sun, etc? Do you have suggestions of a nursery in the area that you would recommend good specimens to purchase? We really enjoy your blog! Thanks, Cydney

  2. I didn't realize there were any apple trees that would grow here. My kids have always wanted apple trees and I've always told them it doesn't get cold enough for long enough here.
Ya learn something new every day.
    Thanks!

  3. Hi Cydney, we bought ours from Log Cabin Garden Nursery on Pasadena ave. in St.Petersburg. We planted them in two very good sized containers with regular potting soil and they're in full sun the better part of the day. Also Hubs controls the scale with dabbing canola oil on them. I hope this helps some. :) And thanks for stopping in and leaving a comment, it makes my day.

  5. Scale can be addressed with an oil spray and it makes the shiny bark shinier.

  6. I had no idea that apple trees would grow this far south! Like SC Momma, I also thought it was too warm for them in our time zone. Thanks for the tip! The weather we're having right now should be very good for it.
