For this week's Dim Sum Sunday theme of pie, we went with a recipe from my new birthday cookbook.
Apple Galette
Maybe not an actual "pie", but it had all the yummy goodness of one.
Absolutely fabulous!
Head on over to the Karmic Kitchen for more Sunday fun.
I love to make galetts - so easy and rustic. This looks yummy. So, ice cream with or no?
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of these!!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds and looks wonderful ... vanilla ice cream would be a mandatory accompaniment.
I love the rustic aspect of this pie (yes pie in my book) not too fussy at all. I'm guessing that's a yes on the ice cream. I'm wondering what kind of apples you used? There are tons available right now and curious what's available in Florida.
ReplyDeleteHappy Dim Sum Sunday.
Wow ! looks (and I bet tastes) fabulous.
ReplyDeleteMoi, John and Elizabeth did, but I didn't. I was holding out for the cookies and cream ice cream that was in the freezer. It's my downfall at night.
ReplyDeleteFC, you should give it a try one day. I think you'd love it! Simple, simple, simple.
Shamy, I went with a mix of apples. I think it was one granny, two fuji, and a gala. I wasn't sure at the time if that was such a smart move, but it came out great anyways.
Susan, this is gonna be a recipe that I use A LOT! :)
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've gathered, this cookbook is one you've had on permanent loan from the library...how many recipes did you make from it before you decided that this one you needed for your own? And was there one special recipe that did it for you?
ReplyDeleteoh its gorgeous! looks like the cover of a magazine!
ReplyDeleteI love making apple pies but I've never made one of these. It does look easy. And I like using at least 3 different types of apples when I make pie. It gives your standard recipe a different taste everytime you use it and there are cool textural differences (say between a granny smith and a golden delicious) that keeps it interesting. Nice job on this galette.
ReplyDeleteHappy DSS!
That sounds and looks delish!!
ReplyDeleteSham, what grabbed me was the simplicity of the recipes. Nothing scary, just fun times in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteJohn made the ricotta cheese last weekend and it was AWESOME! Again, I would have thought this was rocket science before getting this book. :) Well, maybe not rocket science, but you get what I'm sayin'...
I'll get back to everyone after while. On Monday my girl goes in early for her physical theraphy. So I gotta run and help get her ready.
Your galette looks just like the recipe, great job! I keep wanting to try a galette as they do seem easy to make and I always forget about it as a choice and go with a crisp or cobbler!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to see what fruit I get in my veggie box today, maybe a pear galette?
Great job! Happy DSS!
That's almost too pretty to eat. I can only imagine how good it tasted!
ReplyDeleteK9, you sweet dog, you're makin' me blush.
ReplyDeleteBuzz, I'm so glad it turned out well. I haven't done much pie making, so I was a little lost on which apples to use. When all else fails, just throw a bunch in and hope for the best. :)
Thanks Darla!
Diva, I was thinking about doing a pear one too. Maybe over the weekend I'll give it a go.
ScMomma, the crust was amazing! Such a huge difference from the pre made ones.
Oh my that looks yummy!!! Warm with ice cream - yummy!
