Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!

Molting isn't a pretty thing.

Does it hurt?

ScMomma, yeah, Cotton isn't real happy right now.

FC, hehehe. You know me so well. :)

Shamy, It seems like the head quills coming in are the only ones that are causing her pain. Well, and maybe the embarrassment of having no tail feathers.
I've been giving her extra raisin oatmeal and other good yummy treats so maybe that helps a little. :)

I LOVE the middle pic! Looks like an Indian headdress gone wild.

We haven't had our first molt yet - any idea what age it usually happens?

eeeeek. Glad to know the pain is limited. How long does it last?

ThreeC, it's so bizarre looking!

Kate, ours were all about 12-14 months old.

Boxer, they look pretty darn shaggy for awhile. My chicken book says 12-14 weeks. That seems about right.

Wow, I still have a lot to learn before I get my chickens! I had no idea it is painful, poor girl!
