Diva, he is!! It's like having another kid in the house.
I think it's called a golden watermelon???
Floridagirl, it's a great time in the veggie garden right now!
TFB, do you have to water the baskets a lot in the summer?
Darla, Peanut and Laverne are very sick. The other Girlz are only showing a mild case. But they're all getting meds, vitamins and good yummies. So hopefully they'll pull through.
Chickory, Avian Pox is spread by wild bird dander and mosquitoes. Nasty, nasty, nasty.
that scares me. i see my chickens under the bird feeder sometimes when they free range. i am so sorry. can they be saved? i am very distressed by this news. :-(
Chickory, the only one I'm really worried about is Peanut. She has the worst case by far. Both her eyes are swollen shut with pox and her comb and wattles are a mess. *sigh* She just needs to go another week or so and she'll be past the worst of it...
I like the walk way. Filling the cracks with broomed sand was something I considered but I think it works better with bricks then stones.
When I first saw that picture of Ollie (and before I enlarged it) I thought, "Why is someone in the chicken coop dressed as the Easter Bunny?" Bwahahaha
My Coop "FIX"! Yours is the most beautiful coop I have seen because of the beauty surrounding it. If I was a sick chick, this is where I would want to recooperate, haha I didn't even get that until I started typing it! The veggies all look wonderful, good luck with the girlz...
Dani - talk to me about chicken sickness. Silly question - but how did you figure out they were sick. I thought you mentioned those three had gone broody recently. Now I hope my Clementine is broody and not sick. She isn't doing well on that nest day in and out - she's barely eating and drinking and i can't find a cage to put her in to keep her off the nest :( How did you figure out yours had this pox issue?
I really really hope they pull through. How scary.
And I agree with BuzzKill - I, too, thought it was a person dressed up as the Easter Bunny before I focused and noticed it was Ollie! LOL
Kate, I thought at first Laverne and Peanut had mites. Their combs were pale and in bad shape with sores. We kept inspecting them, but weren't finding anything. Not even around the vent area. So it was back on the computer. Finally found a thread on Backyard Chickens that had pictures of the pox. And THAT was exactly what the Girlz were showing.
So we got vitamins for the water and antibiotics to treat any infections from the sores. And now we're just waiting for it to run it's course.
I really think they'll all pull through, it's just gonna take a few weeks.
I love the chicken coop picture, but like Chickory I am distressed about your chicks. !!!!!!! Please keep us posted and good luck to you all during the next week.
I'm with Buzz...I looked at the coop and thought why is she dressed like an Easter Bunny? I thought she seemed fairly n-o-r-m-a-l from her blog???? Then I realized it was a giant dog....I'm sorry I thought you were weird and hopping around the garden dressed like a bunny.
So sorry about the girlz. I hope they will start feeling better soon. The antibotic should help. What a pair of kids you have! They are so cute together. I can hardly wait to meet Ollie and see Kitty again. And the rest of your crazy household of course.LOL hugs to all love you
I refuse to think any of the Girlz as anything but healthy and happy. This is what happens when you let them get little chicken tattoos at unsafe chicken tattoo parlors.
So not to sound naive, but I was surprised to here thta your chickens had pox, but then it is called "chicken pox' in layman's terms when we get it so I guess it shouldn't seem so shocking.
Dani - where does one get chicken abx? I'm sure our vet would require an office visit, which would be pricey! Is this something you can pick up at a feed store? And I'd love a post on the girls - I have a lot to learn!
Haha! Ollie is as tall as Elizabeth! Hey Dani is that yellow thing a cucumber? What are they called? I had one in Australia..
ReplyDeleteThose veggies are pretty! The daughter-doggie pictures are so cute!
ReplyDeleteIs that a black and white in the last picture:) Those veggies are looking good. We've been using our hanging tomatoes weekly.
ReplyDeleteSick chicks? I hope not. I love Ollie looking over Elizabeth's shoulder, and standing beside her. You know I love this area of your yard, A LOT!
ReplyDeleteoh no. ive never had a pox or anything bad....did you introduce a new bird to the flock? how could this have happened. i wish i could help.....
ReplyDeleteveggies look awesome!
Diva, he is!! It's like having another kid in the house.

I do hope they all pull through...how sad for you and Elizabeth knowing how much you love them.
ReplyDeleteDarla, thanks hon. xoxo

Buzz, HAHAHHAHAHHA!
ReplyDeleteI lost my walkway to Elizabeth. She seems to think it's her own personal sandbox.

That last pic is so funny!
ReplyDeleteOllie is like a cartoon character!

ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of doing a post on The Girlz. Maybe it can be a learning experience for all of us...
ReplyDeletePoor little Vera is so lethargic tonight. :(
