Garden Work

We spent most of yesterday working on getting the raised beds in the backyard ready to cover with plastic.

Got everything pulled up and new compost added.

COMPOST ROCKS!

The Girlz were doing their share of hard work too.

We finally got the plastic down on the beds without passing out from heatstroke... nothing like summer in a subtropical climate!

*Sigh* now comes the hard part of waiting six weeks for the beds to solarize.

Oh, I am so envious at the mental image I'm getting of pulling out all my plants and having the girlz head in and declare war on all those squash bugs running for cover! I have never used the plastic before on beds, does it kill insects or disease? Sounds intriguing!

Susan had a bee ass this morning and now you have chicken butts. I hate when I miss out on a theme.

Awww...thanks ThreeC!

Erin, hehehehe. I like your mental picture. :)

I don't know about the disease end of it, but I do know it works great when it comes to nematodes.

TFB, you want chickens and I want turkeys. *sigh*

MS, thanks girlfriend!

Shamy, *snicker*

And one big bee ass it was!

Melissa, I'm wishin' I had a little bit more motivation today....feelin' lazy.

So...if you are putting your plastic down now....hmmmm....have you started your seeds yet or will you sow into the beds???

SPP, I got my seeds and seed trays out a little while ago. Just gotta bleach the trays and then they'll be ready to go.

Looks like you were mighty productive, despite the heat. And you know you'll be thrilled when the waiting is over.

Dani, pleas try the heirlooms "Oxheart" Myall time favorite and this other one,ne Larry hasn't tried it yet, I'm going to order seed for him - thename is "goldsteins Italian". This one is a large sweet tomato, heavy pulp, few seeds...Good for sauce and freezing etc. Baker's seed is one of the sources for Goldsteins, the other is in one of the catalogs that you have already. get goin' Missy, I'm ready to go to work.LOL Love you honey

You gardening ability puts the rest of us to shame. Thanks for sharing your efforts and the results. Maggie and Jiggs appear to be the inspectors.

Minor correction: Seed company on line is listed as Baker's creek heirloom seed co. Sorry 'bout that.
