Black Swallowtails








Larval Host Plant ~ Wild and cultivated members of the Carrot Family including dill, fennel and parsley

Egg ~ yellow, laid singly on host leaves

Habitat ~ old fields, roadsides, pastures, suburban gardens

Abundance ~ occasional

  2. All my Butterfly Bushes expired over the winter!! Going to have to replace them as soon as we get the remains cleared out.

  3. My butterfly bushes are taking off, I have plenty of parsley for both me and butterflies.

    The rabbits and squirrels however get NOTHING!!!

    Froggy, *wahhhhhhh* I can never get butterfly bushes to grow well for me.

    Shamy, haven't had any trouble with cute little bunnies yet. But I know they're out there just waiting for a chance.

  6. From the title I expected to see a bird,not a butterfly. Amazing photos. The caterpillar is almost as beautiful as the butterfly. You got some great shots!

  8. thats why when i find them on my parsley i throw them in the hedges. I know theres a butterfly coming! I have a lot of the tiger swallowtails and the little brown skippers. I love the little tiny blue ones too.

  11. I haven't seen many this year. Mostly Sulfurs since I planted the cassia.
