A Wire Runs Through It.

Poor Hubs, he didn't know what he was getting into when he ordered those Valentine Roses. Or when he asked where I wanted them planted?

How about right there where that big, ugly monster Bird of Paradise is?

Of course, nothing ever goes smoothly and it turns into the big two weekend project for him. Which wouldn't happened had the previous owners taken the time to encase the electrical wiring to the light pole 30 feet away, instead of RUNNING IT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE STINKIN' YARD! GGRRR!

(the wrong way)

(the right way)

Finished, except for mulch and a hose reel.

Thanks Hubs for all your hard work! The rose is going to grow beautifully here.

Wow! You need to cook Hubs his favorite dinner with a beautiful centerspiece from your garden. What did you do with the Paradise?

Fishy, that's a good idea!

Took me seven years of whining to finally get that thing outta there! So I felt setting it on fire and a little celebratory dance was called for. ;0

Actually, the neighbors all wanted some pieces for their gardens and it was gone before we knew it.

Great job! Those roses will give you years of pleasure. How come you don't like the Bird of Paradise, or was it's location that you didn't care for?

Dani said...

Darla, yah, the big gripe was the location and the other was that it never thrived and looked bad.

It'll teach him buy you new plants, right? lol Sounds like he got a good workout out of it. :)

Lisa, yep, I think I cured him of that. ;)

I was never fond of the Bird of Paradise plant, ones on my properties failed to thrive. Like yours, mine took up space but were just "place holders" in the landscape.

But my mother planted one on the semi shady side of her Florida home and the thing was amazing.
15' tall by about 6' wide and grew spectacular "birds" or rich cream, blues and oranges. I've never seen anything like it before or since.

My Mama has a greener thumb than anyone I know. One day, when I am visiting Florida, I might drive by and see if the new owners have been as blessed or if it was just Mama's magic.

Don't you just love previous owners! Seems we spend more time and money cleaning up after them! LOL.

We planted one of the big bird of paradise plants about 10 yrs ago and that thing just keeps growing and growing, no matter how often we cut it back. I'm this close to having the whole root system taken out because it's become too much work.

You have a good hubby tho! LOL. Good thing he knew what he was doing and was able to fix it so noone would get hurt!

Fishy, I'm betting it was your momma's magic. :)

Laura, kinda scary what people do rushing to get the job done.

She gets you every time doesn't she?
I know that it will look so good just as soon as the dust settles. You should be husband of the year!

Sorry, almost forgot...I'm sending five or six more roses from
grandma Lora. They won't be bad, just a LOT of thorns Love you, Mama

Mom, thank you so much for the rose cuttings! With the cooler temps they should root up nice. Love you.
