Darla, remember our roo Cotton? One of those is hers. Seems like she wasn't a roo after all, just a big squawky girl. To say we were shocked would be an understatement!
hahahahaha Cotton gets to stay! what a pleasant surprise. what a lovely clutch of eggs. oh the poor dears must be tuckered out. nope! got to get back on their game tomorrow.
red laid an egg before i went to seattle but not at all while i was gone. nothing good happens when the poultry goddess is out of town. ;-)
You would think the chicken people would know a boy from a girlbird. If I can get it right with my parakeet... I hope this evening finds you well. Best, P. http://sicluceatlux.wordpress.com
Paulie, not that easy with chickens, unless they're sex-linked. We always pay the extra money to be sent one day old female chicks. It's not 100% accurate, since chicks show both parts at that young age. So it's a guessing game up until they're 4-6 months old. At that time, they'll either start laying eggs or crowing. Unfortunately, we're the ones who get the hen that is crazy loud. We're hoping she'll mellow out soon....
Dani - thanks for the comment on my blog about my desire for chickens. I've been reading all of your chicken-tagged posts. So just how noisey can I expect 3 hens to be??
Also, what did you use for a brooder when you got the chicks in?
Kate, I think it depends on the chicken itself. Vera and Cotton are noisy, but the other four are quiet.
With the first chicks, we built a brooder out of cardboard and then when we got the second batch, we just used a large plastic sweater bin. Nothing fancy and they both worked great!

Mis named a cat once, the vet said, "Uh, you might want to re-name this cat." It went from Shebo to Sheba!!
Darla, ha! I'm just glad we didn't give her to someone that was expecting a roo. That would have been bad. :0
Wonderful fresh eggs and a wonderful photo as well.

Oh yummy! Maybe I'll have to eat me some eggs in the morning. Yours look so tasty!
Tammie Lee, they are quite tasty!
Chickory, glad you got home safely. I'm so sorry about your doggie. You're in my thoughts. :)
FC, now if we can get the other three to lay, we'll be doing good.
Lisa, almost too pretty to eat.
