For this week's Dim Sum Sunday, we baked a Three Layer Orange Cake.
Yummy!
All together, it turned out to be very good. I think if we were to make it again, we'd maybe try a lemon version.

OK this is too funny, you went where MS avoided. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Man that looks good. Who got the first slice and who got to lick the bowl?
Happy Dim Sum Sunday!!!
Cake really is the last thing we need...:)
Elizabeth got the first slice. And she LOVED it!
Happy DSS Shamy!
I'm thinking we should have a Kid's Dim Sum Sunday. Put them to work.
That looks fabulous! Will you post the recipe please?
Oh.Good.Lord.
I think I'm in love.
Oh my gawd!!! I'm so glad I ate the salad, and Shamu is right, this is much more what I initially had in mind. So glad I can at least fantasize a great dessert. Yum! Anyway, since I ate the salad I can have a leeetle piece, no? Hoping...
I want to clarify that I'm glad I ate my salad because it leaves room for THAT CAKE. In case there was any doubt... I say, lunging at the cake.
Shamy, that's a great idea!
Cathy, the filling and icing came from a recipe on Epicurious. It's the Triple-Layer White Cake with Orange Curd Filling. For the cake itself we used a recipe from one of our books here at the house. Any white cake recipe will do, just and add a little orange extract.
Boxer, hehehe. We're good as long as we don't think about how bad it is for us. :)
MS, you can have as much cake as you want girlfriend!
That cake makes me want to literally dive right into the middle and devour every crumb!
OH. MY. GOD. What are you doing to me girl?! sheesh! Two layers not enough for ya, huh?! Haha! I think using lemon would be divine. Meyer lemon, even better! And LURVE the little nasturtium flowers! (did you know they are edible? Very nice, peppery flavor, put a few in salads along with the smaller, tender leaves, kind of like watercress)
Made my gal pal Fifi an orange cake after she had her first born and brought it to hospital. Spiked it with Gran Marnier. She loved it. Newborn baby, not so much! DOH! We never even thought about the liquor/breastfeeding aspect. I told this story to the "baby" when he came to visit me a few months ago as we were sitting in a bar together. HE's now 21!!!!
Lovely job girl, Happy DSS!
Dang, I see I'm having as much competition for your cake as I am with your Hairy Armpit Embroidery.
You Go Granny! ;)
Diva, ha! Yah, breastfeeding does come with a whole new set of food rules that one has to follow.
We keep having citrus tree talks, and I think I'm leaning towards getting the Meyer lemon.
Shamy, if this cold weather keeps going on down here, you're gonna be getting a whole mailbox full of embroidered stuff.
I want my Florida sun back dammit!
It looks hugely delicious!
wow, that sure looks like alot of work.
Stop lurking on your wife's blog and get back to work! ;)
That is mile-high cake. I like the colors in it too. Any higher and you'd need a permit to put that thing up! Do you have orange trees at your place and did you use them here? When the Mrs' grandparents had a place in Vero and they grew grapefruit. They'd give us boxes full to take back on the plane with us and they were the best. It'd be cool to grow fruit trees in your back yard.
recipe please!
Buzz, we don't have any planted in the ground just in big pots. But there has been talk lately of putting one in the front yard.
There's a house in our neighborhood that has a star fruit tree, which is really cool.
Native Mom, the recipe is from epicurious. It's called Triple-Layer White Cake with Orange Curd. We didn't use their cake recipe cause people where unhappy with how dry it was.
i love it. and, just what i expected from a florida girl! lovely.
OMG, I just did a close up of your cake...BIG MISTAKE! And I see now those are NOT nasturtium but pansies!
I wanted to tell you that I thought of another savory citrus pairing: fennel and orange or blood orange in a salad. Very crispy and refreshing combo. Is your fennel all done now?
What timing!!I'm starving and I see thisbeautiful cake, full screen-right in my face.LOL. Great presentation kiddo- could I have two servings? Love you bunches mom
