I am deeply saddened by this tragic news All of you have been on my mind all week and I am truly sorry I didn't call. Please call if we can help in any way. Ollie will truly be missed.
My God, Dani, I am really sorry to hear about Ollie. He was so cute-looking and I am sure he must be smiling down at you from the blessed heavens. May his soul rest in peace...
Oh Dani, I'm so so so so sorry. Ollie was such a lovely light-filled being. He will be missed even halfway around the world. Sending lots of love to your family's heavy hearts.
For Ollie, Our friend and beloved companion...May the love of the Creator enfold you and may you always dance in sunshine. We will always cherish your memory and your joy grandma karen
I am so sorry to hear about Ollie. Our Mocha also became ill quickly and did not last long. It is heartbreaking to lose a wonderful pet, as they are family. Hugs to you and your family.
Dani we're so sorry to hear about sweet Ollie. There are no words really to express this kind of sadness. Just know that Missy D and I are sending tons of love your family's way and that you are in our thoughts (and prayers) much love Susan
Oh, Dani, I am so sorry, I could just cry for you and your family. We truly loved Ollie from afar. What a wonderful dog, what a terrible, terrible loss. Prayers for you.
They had found in Ollie where the intestine had slipped some into the colon. They pulled it out and reattached it to the muscle wall.
That should have been the end of it.
Sadly, my boy didn't handle the anesthesia well and this is what would do sweet Ollie in. They gave him plasma, blood, cpr, and a whole host of other things, but he just couldn't pull out of it....
I am sooooooooo very sorry, dear Dani. He was such a big presence in your life, around the house and garden. I am sorry for little Elizabeth especially, she lost her sidekick.
Thinking of you all with love, kisses and licks. xoxoxo
Ok, now the tears are falling after reading your comment Dani. Shoot. I am always a wreck when of my dogs is in surgery and this is why, every dog owner's worst nightmare....and the medical bills on top of it all. Dogs are the best creatures on God's green earth IMO, I am so sorry you just lost yours. I am going to go hug mine. :(
Just yesterday I was able to pick up the ashes of my beloved Stella, who I lost last July. It does hurt, and I'm so very, very sorry for your family. There's just nothing good to say about losing such a big part of your lives. He clearly had a big personality and that's something you just dont "get over." I just wish you all peace.
Oh Dani - I have tears in my eyes after reading this. I once lost a puppy right after she turned one year old due to an accident...it was one of the most painful things I've ever gone through. I can only imagine how badly this hurts. You and your family (esp your daughter) are in my thoughts. I really am truly and deeply sorry for your loss. {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}
Hey sweet thing thanks for the comment. I was telling the cowboy last night about sweet Ollie ... we're so sad for you & your family. We're thinkin' of you lots and sending all our love S, Missy D & the Associates (and that darn cowboy)
This hurts so very badly. Sad, sad for the loss of Ollie but such hurt for you and Elizabeth. Our animal family members are loyal and loving and when we cannot help them we feel great pain. God bless you guys. Love you.
I know this will sound weird, Dani, but when we were kids, we had to give away our pet dog, he was not trained and was getting vicious and too large, he needed to be in a home that had space. My dad "gave" him away, or took him to the pound, I'll never know as he wouldn't dare tell me. But, I collected all the hair I found of his and kept it for years in a photo album. It kept me connected to him.
I think I'll buy myself a nice locket and keep his hair in that.
I collect Civil War stuff, and one of the pieces I have is a bracelet woven from hair. Common practice back then to give the men a little comfort from their loved ones.
Oh Dani. I am so, so, very sorry. When I saw that title pop up on my reader, I assumed you were taking a vacation break from blogging.
And I waited all this time to click. Every puppy is a future heartbreak, but the wonderful time in between always seems to make the future pain of parting bearable. It's not supposed to be so short though. Sweet Ollie was lucky to be with your family during his short life. You all loved him so intensely and it came through in every happy post in which he starred. And I know he loved you back just as intensely.
I can't believe that I waited til today of all days to click on "Quiet".
We are in a dog hospice situation here with my very old 14.5 year old Flounder. He has been slowly running out of life these last few days and is probably only hours away from the end. He's resting peacefully on his bed, barely breathing, and is just a shell of his former crazy self.
I did get a barely perceptible tail twitch this morning, but he's immobile now, so I know the time is close.
How odd that I would come in from checking on him, scroll down to your 6 day old post, and click on it today of all days.
I hope Elizabeth is dealing with this as best she can and that goes for all of you too of course.
My darlin' girl, so good to hear your voice this morning. What wonderful friends you have. Thank all of you for your caring and kindness for my daughter and her family. A special prayer tonite for you FC and your special companion. Keep hold of the good times God bless Dani, I have found a huge moth to send you. would love to know who he is. Love you I'll see you soon Mom
Hi Dani, I keep coming back as well to see how you are doing....you and your family are in my thoughts every day. So sad to read about FC's poor Flounder too. Dogs own our hearts in so many ways. Hugs to you.

2 quotes that meant so much to me, they describe how I felt in the weeks & months after Jake died.
It is good to think of Ollie as the sparkles of light on the waves, the breeze that blows through your garden, or the warmth of the sun you feel on your face. I know that dogs do live solidly in the moment and because they live there they don't feel these feeling that we feel. We just miss them so much. It's nearly 3 years since Jake died I think about him everyday and if I thought it possible to make a deal with someone or something I would wish him back in an instant. That love was so big.
Hang in there. I'm so glad that you have another dog. Winnie was a god send for me, getting me out for my walks, having someone to continue to care for. Didn't mean to be quite so long winded but I sure have been thinking about you lots ! xo Susan
Dani, I never saw this post! I am so sorry for your family, the loss of a pet is so hard. Unfortunately, dog lovers go through this so many times during our comparatively long life, hugs to you and your family. There is a quote from Dr. Seuss that I put on our Bernese Mtn Dog's garden stone that might give you some comfort: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened". So true, we are so lucky that dogs share their lives so completely with us for such a short time.

I sweep the floor and I find strands of curly Ollie hair...

We're doing so-so. The mornings are the worst right now. Seems so wrong to wake up and not have our sweet boy with us.
