Wow... In all the years we've been here, I've never seen them at the beach! The ponds around here are really low, or dried up in some cases. I wonder if that could be the reason?
I HAD NO IDEA YOU CREATED A WEBSITE!!Hooray!I'll be a regular now.Ducks on the beach? No, not mallards anyhow.
Laura,I thought they might be injured but after watching them for awhile, you could tell they were just there to feed. Very strange.FC, Welcome to my blog. Loved your post today. So cute.
Yeah, yeah! They are Black-bellied Whistling Ducks! I've seen them at beaches before... they also like salt marshes.
You rock Rurality!!! Thank you for figuring it out for us.
Rurality, Got so excited about the ID that I forgot to welcome you to my blog.
I would of said they are Teals rather than Black bellied whistlers.Either way, I was surprised to see a pair of Teals on Lighthouse beach at Sanibel Island, three weekends in a row. It was a first for me too.
Anon,These pics were taken at Sanibel!!! We were staying down at beachview cottages. Thanks so much for stopping in and commenting.
