My Climbing Aster started blooming about a week and a half ago. And what a sight to see! Not only does it flower like crazy, attracting all kinds of little pollinators, Asters are also a host plant for the Pearl Crescent and American Painted Lady caterpillars. A very cool plant, I think it might be my new favorite.

That looks pretty indeed. Thank you for the info on it being a host plant, I am getting my list together to enlarge my butterfly garden, any other tips would be very much appreciated!
Darla, if you get a chance go and buy Florida Butterfly Caterpillars and Their Host Plants. I have this book at home and it's one of the best.
thank you Dani!
I want to come and live in your yard. Your flowers look so pretty.
I love asters, too. I had a giant plant that had to be moved and barely survived at all, so I bought one this fall that has a larger more showy (from a distance) flower. I put it where I can see it off the deck. It has been out there blooming for weeks. I haven't even deadheaded it and it just keeps going. The old tiny flowered one was great in arrangements, so I am hoping this one will take off too.
I would like to mention your site on mine but I won't do that without your explicit permission. Please let me know if I can link to you on my about page.
Thanks,
P.
