Big Fluffy Silky Bottoms.
With four other nest boxes to choose from, you would think Silky would pick an empty one, but does she? Nope, it's more fun to harass broody Peanut. Which for people unfamiliar with chickens, broody means, come hell or high water or big fluffy Silky bottoms, they're not leaving the nest, cause there are chicks to be hatched. Unfortunately, she's gonna be sitting there an awfully long time since we don't have a rooster to fertilize the eggs. Poor Peanut. She would make a good mommy to some little ones.

They are so cute! It must be fascinating to watch them and they each seem to have their own personalities. Very cool pets you have Dani!
Your chickens give you so much entertainment.
Awwwww....we have extra roosters and little silky/frizzle crosses that would be perfect...too bad about the distance.
ScMomma, they bring me so much joy. I find myself sitting outside a lot just to be with them.
Darla, they are a silly bunch!
Threecollie, I love that white roo that y'all have. He's gorgeous!
OK what's so funny is that the Post Headline pops up before the video leaving the reader to wonder exactly whose big fluffy silky bottoms we were about to see. Very cute and an excellent video for the Year of the Chicken.
Cute! I found your blog looking for posts about chickens. We only have about 7 weeks of experience under our belt and I love reading about other people's experiences as I learn so much. I've heard that if you dip their butts in cold water, it will snap them out of the broodiness.
We are also going to order duck eggs later this year for the extra broody hens to hatch.
By the way, I think you are the first chicken farmer I have met that lives in Florida.
Thank you so much for Funny Monday. It's been a really painful day here. The weather has jumped all over the place and it's making me crazy. I wanted to dig your roses today, but now it's raining and looks like snow...Yesterday it was 75. Enough of the whine, the little ones are so cute. I confess a real fasination for the Miss Silky chick. Maybe she just couldn't see the other chick LOL. They will do this. Grandma could never understand it either. She usually just cooked one. That pretty much took care of everything. That was a joke Short Kid, get that look off your face. I Love yoy bunches Hugs to everyone.
Mom
Chickens are too funny! :)
Oh, I love your picture. Yes, Silkies love to help hatch everyone's eggs. We only have two Silky-mix chickens left in our flock. One hen, Elenore, and one Rooster, Rocky. We can have roosters because we are in the country on ten acres.
I'm with Hot Belly Mama in not having met a Florida chicken farmer before. Just shows the love of chickens is everywhere.
Very nice blog Dani.
Silly me, I didn't realize this was a video and am even more delighted. You video and the sound quality is so great. Oh yes, fluffy silky bottoms is a very appropriate title. LOL
Shamu, lol. K9 needs to hurry up and get home so we can see new pictures of her little fluff butts.
Hot Belly Mama, thanks for stopping in. Last couple of days we've been locking her out of the nest boxes in hopes that she'll get over her broodiness.
Mom, you are so bad!;0
Lisa, I like your new picture, very cool!
Granny Annie, 10 acres....I'm so envious! :)
i love chicken movies! poor peanut! too bad cotton didnt oblige by being a rooster. such fun though. maybe you could buy a baby chick and tuck it under while she's asleep?
Chickory, I would love to be able to do that, but we don't have room for anymore chickens. :(
