A Gift Most Wonderful

Yay! Granpa had a bar! Wonder how much beer/whiskey this piece bought?!

Wow how cool is that?

What makes me think a tavern owned by one of your family members was a pretty rocking place.

I've always been fasinated by old coins. I always try to imagine the places and people they've touched. Soda machines, nightstands, pockets, piggy banks... They're little pieces of roving history.

Darla, it is!

SPP, this was my Christmas present from John. I found it on a coin site last year when I was doing some of my genealogy. John said the guy didn't want to sell it because of the rarity, but he ended up doing so. God Bless the man for that.

A most wonderful gift 130 years in the making!

Diva, I don't know, but I'm amazed that this coin is still in excistance. My hometown is a very small place.

Shamy, makes me wish we had a time machine so we could check the joint out. Boxer would have to come with us as the official drink taster.

Melissa, in sixteen years John has given me a lot of gifts, but nothing as special as this.
Elizabeth doesn't count! lol

Buzz, I have a union civil war belt buckle that I've always wondered the same thing. I guess that's why we collect things. This wonder of history and the people that came before us.

Nothing could be more personal. What a journey this little object has had. Do you know where the tavern was located? I wonder if the building is still there. If you don't know, I'll check with the historical society. I'm very happy for you.Call me

Next time you're in town stop in and see if they have any photos. THAT would be so AWESOME if they did!

I love old coins and this is better than a coin.... it has history. YOUR history behind it. What a great gift.
