So from my garden this month we have:
The Sunflowers which had some sort of rust going on.
My Gold Rush Zucchini, the mildew took them out.

Ohhhhh Dani. What a sad lineup of death. I didn't know that sunflowers could get rust on them. That's good to know since mine are teeny-tiny little things and will almost definitely get some sort of disease since that's my luck. Did your tomatoes succumb to the heat?
Kate, yeah, I think it was the heat that did the tomatoes in. They were doing fine, and then June came and they all up and died. Poor things. :(

If I had known about this I could have posted a picture of my cabbage. It was looking so good and suddenly some bug got the best of it. My neighbor brought me a head of her huge, perfect cabbage. I'm sure she was being nice.
That is so sad! What a frustrating year for gardening! I like the idea of the dead garden thing....

I really like that you're showing us the bad with the good. I think garden frustrations are something a lot of us can identify with. It's also just a part of gardening, along with the furry beasts, the creepy crawlies and the occasional pooch sampling your tomatoes.
Shamu, yep, it makes us all feel better knowing we're not alone with our black thumbs.

I feel your pain. At least your sunflowers came up! I think my chickens found all the seeds :) Our peas and lettuce season was okay, but short and my kale was overcome with some sort of pest. The heat this June was blazing like August heat. Definitely feeling the global warming!
May I compliment you on just how pathetic your croaked plants look? I'm starting to figure out something. Vegetables are a lot harder to grow than flowers. Have never heard of the Golden Nugget Watermelon. Had it lived, I bet it would have been delicious. Fun post.

I've got some tomato plants, too that are slowly being devoured by the bug du jour. We gardeners have to take the good and the bad when it comes to plants.

Oh no! Rust strikes again!
May I modestly suggest that I have a solution fer rust? And other mildew/fungus horrors? It is a commercial product that ain't available to retail gardeners. Iffin' ya want, email Aunty at abporkrinds@yahoo.com

So does the mildew come from all the rain we had? I have no idea how to garden here in Florida, everywhere I've lived for the past 15 years has been completely different zones!
Diva, the rain and just our normal summer humidity usually brings about the mildew. It's better to just take it easy and wait till it cools down in the fall. :)
that's pretty funny.... plants that have croaked....must check out a few more....
the wild bunnies lop off the tops of mine...but....my pansies just refuse to do anything for me unless they are in pots.... the ones in my regular garden spots...just get all yellow and wilty and ...die.. sigh......next year I
ain't puttin' any in the ground!
